Be a Prayer Warrior

prayer_warrior

God is calling us to prayer.  God has given women gifts that make us great prayer warriors.  We see pain.  We feel.  We commit.  So let’s use those gifts and become great prayer warriors.  Pray every day.  Pray several times a day.  Soon you will be living 1 Thessalonians 5 verses 16 to 18:  rejoice always, pray continually, give thanks in all circumstances, for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.

1.  Pray in the Morning (and Throughout the Day)

When you wake up in the morning, take time to pray.  If you can’t do it right away, find time sometime in the morning.  I bet you can.  How about while you’re washing some dishes, or folding some clothes, or nursing a baby, or waiting for a bus, or driving in the car, or walking down the street, or at the gym.  We have so many wasted moments during the day when we could be turning to prayer and turning to God.

2.  Pray for Yourself

God wants us to be selfish when it comes to prayer.  What to pray for?  Virtues, faithfulness, our struggles, our joys, guidance, our decisions.  Pray for the courage to say YES to whatever God is asking of you.  There are so many ways to pray, but the most important thing is to just DO IT.  God wants to mold us, but we have to let Him in and let Him work in our lives.

3.  Pray for Others

So many people around us need prayer.  Even when we don’t know it, it’s guaranteed.  Pray for your family, your friends, your neighbours, the person you pass on the street.  Maybe you are the only person who will ever pray for that other person.  Don’t miss an opportunity to bless them.  Pray for the opportunity to serve and bring Jesus’ love to others.  Maybe they will recognize where our love comes from and maybe they won’t, but we will know.

4.  Pray that your Eyes be Opened

God is working all around us, all the time.  We need to take the time to see what God wants us to see.  We can see the needs around us when we look.  We can see the blessings around us when we look.  We can see God’s power around us when we look.  So don’t forget to look around you, and be thankful.  Read scripture, study books, share with other Christians, serve the needy.

5.  Pray Before Bed

At the end of the day, we need to take time to look over the day to see our strengths and to see our faults.  We need to rejoice with God and to ask His forgiveness.  We need to ask Him to transform us so that tomorrow we can be more faithful and more faith filled.

6.  Read your Bible

You can get all kinds of good advice by listening to Christian radio, reading Christian books, watching Christian movies, sharing with Christian friends, listening to a good sermon.  God will use all of these gifts to help you to grow, but nothing will ever take the place of God speaking directly to you through scripture.

7. Make a Retreat

Whenever possible, alone or with others, take a weekend away, take a day away, or take a few hours away.  This time is to be used to focus on God without the usual daily distractions.  You can go on an organized retreat or you can spend a few hours in silence in a quiet place – alone in a park, alone in a church, alone in your car.  Do what you have to do, but spend some time in silent prayer, with a bible and with a notebook and pen.  God wants to speak to you.  Take the time to listen.
