Hi! I’m Melina, homeschooling mother of 11 and Grandmelina to 2!
Welcome to day one of our devotion based on Matthew. Thanks for joining us!
Dear Jesus, I come before you today. Open my heart and my mind as I read Matthew. Help me to understand what You are trying to say to me, and to see what You are trying to show me. I love You.
You can read your own Bible or read an online version like the one below. I like to use my own Bible so I can highlight, circle and underline those things that stand out for me.
Find MATTHEW 1 online.
A family record of Jesus Christ, son of David, son of Abraham.
Where we come from has an influence on who we are. The things that happen to us also help form who we are. Here we see a record of where Jesus came from, as well as a record of HIS story.
Jesus came from the line of David through Joseph. He was born of Mary into this family. Family is obviously important. My family is important to me. I want the best for my kids. What I teach them now will be with them their whole life long. And I teach them what I learned from my family, as well as what I’ve learned along the way. There are certain things we do as a family that I did growing up with my family – camping, potlucks, Lord’s Day Celebrations, mass. But then there are things that we do that are unique to our family that I now see my oldest doing with her little family – rosary, homeschooling, and little things like resurrection eggs. That gives my heart comfort. I want to continue to surround my kids with good things, and model a Christian Catholic family life for them to share with their own kids one day. We are writing OUR story, which includes HIS story.
“The virgin shall be with child and give birth to a son, and they shall call Him Emmanuel,” a name which means “God is with us.”
Jesus is more that just a baby born into a family. He is “God is with us.” What a wonderful gift God has given us. He never gives up on us. He never abandons us. He is always presenting us with ways to know Him and to know His Love. Jesus is that Love. “God is with us,” and wants us to be with Him. How?
God has been calling me to read more scripture, but life gets busy and I don’t get around to it. This bible study is a way for me not only to read scripture, but to delve into it and allow it to change my life.
Thank you for taking this journey with me. I hope to have the chance to provide many more Bible Studies too. This is just the first.
YOUR TURN! What has God spoken to your heart today?
