proverbs 31 25 yellow

Sister in Christ, welcome!

Days can be long, and life can be busy.  We don’t always have the time or the luxury to get out and join groups of Christian women where we can get fed and nourished in our walk with Jesus.

This group is for all Christian women, but especially for those who are looking to deepen their relationship with Jesus amid the busy-ness of life.  Just as Mary sat at the feet of Jesus while her sister Martha continued to work, may we find ways to spend the time we need at the feet of Jesus.

You’ll be amazed at how often you can find time even in the busy-ness of life.  With Jesus at the center of our lives, suddenly everything else becomes easier and more joyful.

Proverbs 31 verse 25 says “She is clothed with strength and dignity, and she laughs at the days to come.”  I remember very clearly the day I received this word.  I was a young wife in a new home with a 5 month old baby.  Just moments before I had learned that I was pregnant again. This was what I had always wanted – children.  And not just children, but a whole house full of them.  However, I was suddenly overwhelmed by the sheer magnitude of the responsibility I had taken on, and I was filled with fear for the future.  I began to hyperventilate.  Then I read this verse and my joy returned a hundred-fold. Suddenly the future wasn’t the scary place I envisioned, because God reminded me that I need only to focus on today and trust Him with the future.

The babies came one after another – 11 of them in less than 14 years.  Anyone with young children knows the constant work involved in caring for kids.  It’s a 24 hour a day job, 7 days a week.  And even if you do get away for an hour or so, you never stop being a mother.

Having chosen to homeschool our kids, there were very few times during the day when I wasn’t being called upon to tend to emergencies.  Life was busy.  The days had their ups and their downs, but when things would start to overwhelm me I would look at the verse pinned to the front of my fridge and remember to enjoy this day and be filled with joy and laughter.

God has always called me to Him.  I can’t remember a time when I wasn’t trying to please Him and place Him at the center of my life.  Step by step He has brought me to where I am today – His precious daughter, a homeschooling mother of 11, grandmother to 2, missionary in my own home.  I have been given the awesome responsibility of presenting Jesus to my family and forming my children (and grandkids to a lesser degree) into worthy saints, missionaries and martyrs for Jesus and their faith.

To do this I needed to continue to grow in my faith too.

Even though I did join groups and go on retreats, I was limited to the times I could go. Either family responsibilities prevented my participation, or lack of money did.  So a lot of time was spent seeking God on my own, and finding ways that I could grow in holiness without ever leaving my home.  And God is good and faithful.  He meets us right where we are.  This was the life He called me to:  to a life of family and busy-ness, but also to a life of prayer and holiness.

Hopefully a little of what I have learned will help you along your own personal journey to holiness.  And of course, my journey isn’t over yet either.  I am looking forward to journeying together!
